From reactive firefighting to preemptive defense

The challenge

Beacon's 240 stores each ran a patchwork of point-of-sale terminals, back-office PCs, and guest Wi-Fi — managed by a six-person IT team. Security was reactive by necessity: phishing emails reached cashiers weekly, two stores suffered card-skimming malware in one year, and every incident meant flying a technician out with a USB stick. “We were always one headline away from disaster,” says Bell.

The approach

Vernox deployed in monitor mode to 40 pilot stores first. Within nine days the platform flagged a credential-stuffing wave hitting loyalty terminals — an attack the existing antivirus never saw. Full rollout to all 240 stores finished over one weekend.

  • POS terminals isolated on their own zero-trust segment
  • USB and peripheral control blocking skimmer installs
  • Cashier phishing simulations with one-click reporting

“Before Vernox, our network security was reactive and scattered. After rolling out the platform, we catch threats before they ever reach our registers — my team finally sleeps at night.”
